Bachelor of Arts | (B.A.)

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree is designed to improve students' understanding of the world in which they live. It is also tailored to improve the analytical skills necessary to interpret real-world problems in the cultural and physical environment. The degree prepares students for employment in business, government, planning, foreign service, mapping, industrial location, marketing research, resource evaluation, environmental analysis, transportation, and other fields.

Human Geography

Emphasizes the social science elements of geographical study. Human Geography prepares students for employment in community outreach, public policy, sustainability, international aid and development, transportation and tourism, and social systems science.

Degree/Major Requirements

  1. Students majoring in Geography (General) complete either the B.A. or B.S. degree.
  2. Requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of Geography.
  3. Degree requires
    a) minimum 2.5 major GPA for geography courses attempted at Texas State University and
    b) minimum 2.25 Texas State GPA for all courses taken at Texas State University.
  4. Grade of ā€œCā€ or better in all Geography courses
  5. Degree requires a minor area of study with a minimum of 18 semester hours
  6. Texas State requires a minimum of 120 semester hours
  7. At least 36 semester hours mus be advanced (3000 - 4000) level courses
  8. At least 9 semester hours mus be writing intensive (WI)
  9. All Geography prerequisite courses must be completed with a ā€œCā€ or better
