Video presentations [under construction] provide an introduction to the how the processes of globalization impact the region.
Suggested readings and visual media include a number of maps representing modes of transport and connectivity throughout the region as well as integration with world markets. Additionally, a link is provided to a case study developed by the Association of American Geographers that examines how globalization impacts national identity formation.
A case study study focuses upon an early example of a globalized process – spice trade. It was this trade which initiated European colonialism and led to the spread of European culture across the globe.
A lesson plan that has students investigate culture traits such as music or food products and explore the implications of their spread from or to the region.
